Two students aged 18 and 19 have been placed under judicial supervision for having circulated explicitly antisemitic and threatening messages in November on a discussion group linked to the François-Mauriac Crous student residence in Pessac, near Bordeaux.

Three months after the events, the investigation has reached a decisive stage. On November 14, 2025, the Bordeaux education authority reported to the courts a series of disturbing exchanges discovered on an internal discussion group of the François-Mauriac residence. During the night of November 11 to 12, several students shared openly hateful messages of an antisemitic nature. Among the most shocking statements were: “I hope to become president, I’ll do double the 1939–45 genocide” and “There will be no more Jews, I will exterminate them.” These revelations were first reported by Europe 1.

An investigation was opened for “repeated death threats” and “discrimination based on origin, nation, race or religion.” On January 21, the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office announced the arrest and police custody of two students identified as the authors of the messages.

During questioning, the two young men admitted to having written the messages, which prosecutors classified as repeated death threats and public incitement to discrimination. However, they denied any antisemitic intent, claiming “immaturity” and an alleged “humorous” intent. This line of defense was firmly rejected by the university, which stressed the seriousness of the acts in a national context marked by a worrying rise in antisemitic incidents.

As soon as the messages were reported, the university launched disciplinary proceedings and expressed its “full support” for the targeted students. The Crous also summoned the two suspects on November 18. They were permanently expelled from the university residence and required to vacate their accommodation by January 5, 2026.

On January 23, both individuals were brought before the prosecutor under a fast-track procedure. Pending their court hearing, scheduled for June 19, 2026, they have been placed under judicial supervision.

France has seen a sharp increase in antisemitic acts, particularly since October 7, 2023, with numerous cases reported within French universities.
