Dalil Diab, a local candidate for far-left party La France Insoumise (LFI) in Tourcoing, is under fire for allegedly making antisemitic remarks on social media. The controversy involves past posts in which he reportedly voiced support for comedian Dieudonné, previously convicted of inciting racial hatred, and mocked Mia Schem, a 21-year-old Israeli woman who was held hostage by Hamas for 55 days after the October 7, 2023 attacks.
In one post, Diab allegedly used the term “celestial dragons”—a reference to a manga series that has been co-opted by some antisemitic circles—to allude to the Jewish community. In another, he sarcastically questioned signs of mistreatment in a photo of Schem after her release. His X (formerly Twitter) account has since been made private, and LFI has yet to issue a public response.
