The Federal Prosecutor’s Office arrested Danish national Yousif C. yesterday evening (27 May 2026) on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued by the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice on 22 May 2026. The arrest was carried out near Copenhagen (Denmark) by Danish police officers acting under mutual legal assistance.
The accused is strongly suspected of membership in a foreign terrorist organization (Section 129a (1) No. 1, Section 129b (1) sentences 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code), preparation of a serious act of violence endangering the state (Section 89a (1), (2) Nos. 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code, former version), and violations of the Weapons Act (Section 52 (1) No. 2 of the Weapons Act).
The arrest warrant lays out essentially the following allegations:
Yousif C. is a member of the terrorist organization HAMAS. In July 2025, he handed five pistols and ammunition to Abed Al G., who is being prosecuted separately (see Press Release No. 65 of 1 October 2025). Shortly afterwards, Abed Al G. passed the firearms to Mohammed A., also prosecuted separately (see Press Release No. 69 of 6 November 2025), for onward transport to Vienna. The operation served to prepare HAMAS assassination attacks on Israeli or Jewish facilities in Germany and across Europe.
Following his transfer to Germany, the accused will be brought before the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice, who will formally announce the arrest warrant and rule on the execution of pre-trial detention.
