On Tuesday around 8:35 p.m., a witness reported a burning trash container in front of the Jewish community center in Gießen. Police patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene on Burggraben, where officers arrested a suspect on the spot. The fire department extinguished the flames shortly afterward.
The fire caused damage to a window shutter and the front gate of the building. While the extent of the damage has not yet been determined, no one was injured.
The suspect, a 32-year-old German national, was taken into police custody. Initial findings suggest he acted alone, allegedly setting fire to leftover paper stored in a mobile waste container. His motive remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
