Man arrested in San Sebastián for trying to stab several pedestrians

A 64-year-old man of North African origin was arrested in San Sebastián after allegedly attempting to stab several pedestrians in the Sancho El Sabio avenue area, according to the Ertzaintza.

Police said the suspect openly threatened passersby with a knife and allegedly attempted to attack multiple individuals, including a young man and two elderly people. Witnesses reported having to flee or dodge the attacker, who also reportedly struck one person while moving through the street. No injuries were ultimately reported.

The suspect was subdued and arrested by Ertzaintza officers with support from the Guardia Municipal de Donostia. Authorities stated that officers used the necessary force because the man was armed and in an agitated state.

According to police sources cited by Spanish media, investigators are examining the motives behind the attack attempt, including the possibility of a terrorist motivation. Authorities have appealed for additional witnesses and potential victims who left the scene to come forward.

The suspect has since been transferred to judicial authorities, while the investigation remains ongoing.
