Midlands teen charged with terror offence ‘had explosive substances’

A teenage boy has been charged with possession of explosive substances.

The 17 year old, from Stafford, was detained following an investigation by Staffordshire Police.

He was also charged with two counts of viewing or accessing information likely to be useful to someone committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, has been remanded in custody.

He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, November 27).

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “Following an investigation by Staffordshire Police, a 17-year-old boy, from Stafford, has been charged with possession of explosive substances contrary to section 4(1) Explosive Substances Act 1883 and two counts of viewing or accessing via the internet information likely to be useful to someone committing or preparing an act of terrorism contrary to section 58(1)(c) Terrorism Act 2000.

“He is currently remanded in custody.

“He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 27 November).”
