Police are investigating what locals have called a “petrol bomb” attack in a Leigh residential street

One local reported on social media that a “fire bomb” had gone off on Stout Street in Leigh as her grandchildren were on their way to nursery.

She added: “How sick are some people?”

Uniformed officers, crime scene investigators, firefighters and paramedics were all called to the scene following the incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 8.30am this morning we were called to reports of a possible arson at a property on Stout Street in Leigh.

“Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

“Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

“Currently no arrests have been made but detectives are completing inquiries to identify the offender.

“It is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public. Investigations are ongoing.
