A 36-year-old man suspected of procuring weapons for Hamas has been arrested at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Investigators believe he has links to a terrorist cell uncovered in October that allegedly planned attacks on Jewish institutions in Germany.

On Friday, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office ordered the arrest of a suspected member of Hamas. According to information from Der Spiegel, police officers detained the man, identified as Mohammad S., around 11:00 p.m. at Berlin Brandenburg Airport shortly after he arrived on a flight from Beirut.

According to the Federal Prosecutor General at Germany’s Federal Court of Justice (GBA), Mohammad S. is accused of belonging to the terrorist organization Hamas.

He is also alleged to have procured around 300 rounds of ammunition in August 2025. Investigators believe this was intended to prepare Hamas attacks against Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany and other European countries.

Link to arrests in October 2025

The suspect is believed to be connected to Abed Al G., with whom he allegedly coordinated the procurement of weapons.

Abed Al G. is one of three men who were arrested in Berlin in October last year. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office considers them to be members and so-called overseas operatives of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas.

Two of them had previously been under surveillance for weeks by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. When a weapons handover was arranged at short notice, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Criminal Police Office decided to intervene.

During that operation, investigators seized an AK-47 assault rifle, several pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition. According to investigators, the weapons were intended for attacks on Jewish or Israeli institutions in Germany.

The attack plans were allegedly prepared as early as the summer, reportedly with the involvement of Mohammad S., who was arrested on Friday. He is now expected to be transferred from Berlin to Karlsruhe and brought before an investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice as early as Saturday.
