An 18-year-old Swedish national, accused of planning a terrorist attack in Stockholm, has acknowledged his involvement with the extremist group Islamic State (IS) during court proceedings. The trial, which is being held behind closed doors, began on Tuesday at the Stockholm District Court.
The defendant, who holds both Swedish and Syrian citizenship, is facing charges that include participation in IS. While he had previously denied these allegations, he admitted to being involved with the group for the first time in court. He continues to deny guilt regarding other charges.
Prosecutors allege that a 17-year-old co-defendant also pledged allegiance to IS. Both individuals are charged with attempted murder or preparation for murder, following accusations that they travelled to Eppstein, Germany, with the intention of attacking a man.
According to the indictment, the 18-year-old is also suspected of planning a terrorist attack in Kungsträdgården, a central area in Stockholm. Authorities state that preparations for this alleged attack took place between August 2024 and February 2025. The suspect was arrested in the Stockholm region in February 2025.
