The National Court has opened a secret investigation into possible jihadist terrorism after the National Police intervened over the weekend at a home in the Madrid neighborhood of Vallecas to subdue an individual who attacked three people in the street with a knife .
Legal sources consulted by Europa Press have confirmed that the head of Central Court Number 3 of the National Court, María Tardón, has opened secret proceedings for an alleged crime of terrorism .
The attacker was shot dead after, according to sources in the investigation, he lunged at three people with a knife, and then did the same to police officers, who finally opened fire to subdue him.
The Madrid Provincial Information Brigade of the National Police was in charge of preparing the report, which was sent to the National Court.
Under the influence of psychotropic substances
The events took place on Saturday in the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas, where officers from both the National and Municipal Police were called after receiving a call from a minor requesting help because his brother, another 18-year-old, was agitated inside a building .
Upon arriving at the scene, officers entered the residence, where they found a young man agitated and under the influence of psychotropic substances, in possession of a knife . Upon seeing the police, he attacked them with the knife , prompting officers from both agencies to fire their TASER guns, though without the desired effect.
At that moment, the agents closed the door in order to limit the risk inside the building and requested the collaboration of the Anti-Terrorist Operational Reaction Subgroup (SOAR) of the Police Intervention Unit (UIP), as reported by the Madrid Superior Headquarters.
Finally, the SOAR units entered the building, at which point the suspect lunged at them. The police responded with gunfire to neutralize the threat. The suspect was shot in the chest and hip and was taken to the hospital by paramedics.
Sources familiar with the case have indicated that the suspect spoke Arabic and even uttered the phrase “Allah is great.” The investigation is also focused on determining whether this individual could be linked to three minor stabbings reported in the same area .
