The University of Liège is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Jean Gol Center. Festivities are taking place on campus at Place du 20 août, attended by the president of the reform movement, Georges-Louis Bouchez. A welcoming committee awaits all guests on site. Demonstrators are denouncing the MR’s position on the Gaza issue. The situation on site is quite tense.
At 7:30 p.m., the MR president still had not arrived on site, even though he was expected at 6 p.m. The police are trying to find a secure solution to get him in.
The protesters are in an area they call a free speech zone. They are there to make themselves heard. These are mainly pro-Palestinian and anti-fascist groups. Each guest who attends the party is greeted with firecrackers, as well as eggs and rotten apples. These are mainly pro-Palestinian and anti-fascist groups.
A relatively large and substantial police force has been put in place to ensure security.
The event is scheduled to start at 9 p.m.
